It’s not unusual for Billy Joel to receive song requests when he participates in Q&A sessions. During a session in 1996, at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y., Billy was asked to sing “New York State Of Mind.” You can watch Billy’s impromptu performance of that song in the latest video from our weekly Billy Joel “Questions & Answers” lecture series!

Billy was inspired to write “New York State Of Mind” when returning to New York after living in Los Angeles. The song was originally released on the album “Turnstiles” in 1976, and was most recently included on Billy Joel’s “The Hits” released last November.
