Legendary musician Billy Joel will perform at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on December 31, 2018, marking the 25th anniversary of the last time he played the venue on New Year’s Eve.
Joel, a Long Island native, will play his 34th show at the Coliseum. He last played on Long Island on April 5, 2017, when exuberant Billy Joel fans packed NYCB LIVE for the arena’s first show following an extensive renovation. Tickets for that show sold out in less than four minutes. In 1998, Joel sold out nine shows, setting the venue’s record for the most sellouts in one year. A banner currently hangs in the rafters at NYCB LIVE to commemorate Joel’s longstanding history on Long Island.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, September 14 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com, NYCBLIVE.com, or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets can also be purchased at the Ticketmaster Box Office at NYCB LIVE beginning Sunday, September 16 at noon (if tickets are still available). Citi Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Wednesday, September 12 at 10 a.m. local time.
“We are thrilled to welcome Billy back home for what will be another momentous night in his four-decade-long history playing the Coliseum,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of BSE Global, the operator of the historic venue. “This performance will be a celebration for Long Islanders, truly making New Year’s Eve at NYCB LIVE the ultimate destination to ring in 2019.”
Having sold 150 million records over the past quarter century, Billy Joel ranks as one of most popular recording artists and respected entertainers in history. The singer/songwriter/composer is the sixth best-selling recording artist of all time, the third best-selling solo artist and is one of the highest grossing touring artists in the world. In 2014, Billy Joel received both The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song which honors living musical artists’ lifetime achievement in promoting the genre of song as a vehicle of cultural understanding; entertaining and informing audiences; and inspiring new generations, and the once-in-a-century ASCAP Centennial Award, which is presented to American music icons in recognition of their incomparable accomplishments in their respective music genres and beyond.
