The New York Islanders, who moved from their suburban home to Brooklyn in 2015, have won a bid to build a new arena on the grounds of the Belmont Park horse track. “This is just a big, big day. This is a $1 billion investment being made today, and it’s going to create a lot of jobs,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman along with Islanders co-owner Jon Ledecky, team captain John Tavares, veteran forward Cal Clutterbuck and countless politicians, joined Billy Joel and Governor Cuomo at a press conference on Wednesday.
