Billy Joel will induct Mick Jones and Lou Gramm of Foreigner into the Songwriters Hall of Fame tonight! Billy and Mick co-produced the album Storm Front, released in 1989.
Other inductees at the 44th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame event will include Tony Hatch, Holly Knight, JD Souther, Steven Tyler & Joe Perry. The Pioneer Award will be presented to Berry Gordy, the Johnny Mercer Award will be presented to Elton John and Bernie Taupin; Benny Blanco will receive the Hal David Starlight Award and Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” will be honored with the Towering Song Award.
Billy was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992 and received the Johnny Mercer Award in 2001. In 2011, Billy inducted and performed “Shameless” with friend Garth Brooks, and in 2010, Billy presented Phil Ramone with The Howie Richmond Hitmaker Award.
The ceremony will be held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Other artists confirmed to serve as presenters or performers include Peter Asher, Petula Clark, Shelea Frazier, Wiz Khalifa, Alison Krauss, Chad Kroeger, Smokey Robinson, Patty Smyth, Jordin Sparks, Sting, Rob Thomas, Paul Williams and cast members of Motown: The Musical.
